Would your organization like to reduce its carbon footprint? Have you thought about ways to incorporate/reuse/recycle materials from old exhibits, activities, or projects? Would renewable energy, organic food, climate change, and other environmental issues strike a chord with your visitors or community?
SITES is partnering with Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry to present Green Revolution, a fully digital exhibition that gives host organizations the power to build (and control) their own "eco-zibit." In an effort to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint, Green Revolution doesn't "travel" on trucks. Instead, it's transmitted online—from a secured website to your computer. There are no crates needed.
We supply partners with professionally produced design files for exhibition panels and interactives, and YOU take those blueprints to build your own presentation with reused or repurposed materials. A perfect opportunity to give new life to old items while decreasing clutter and increasing the storage capacity of your facility, Green Revolution is a multi-platform initiative that focuses on several major themes: waste, energy, green pioneers, gardening and composting, green construction, and our carbon footprint.
Multiple hands-on learning stations give this exhibition a green light for families and school groups. But, it has something for everyone—as compelling for kids as for those who have a more earnest environmental message to convey.
Design plans and graphics will be available only to Green Revolution participants.

Smithsonian Offers A New Take on Temporary Exhibition with Virtually No Carbon Footprint
The typical recipe for traveling a museum exhibition is to pack objects into crates, load them onto trucks, and then have those trucks travel the highways to museums across the country. The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) is partnering with the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) to present an innovative, temporary museum exhibit with virtually no carbon footprint that provides kids and their families with easy lifestyle changes they can make to be more environmentally responsible.
With “Green Revolution” participating museums receive all of the necessary design files and instructions digitally, allowing them to construct their very own home grown "eco-zibit" from re-used, recycled materials found within their local community.
The exhibition content is organized around the major themes of Energy, Climate, Food and Composting, and Waste and Recycling. Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve and the City of Southlake, Texas, will be first community in the nation to present the exhibition when it opens on April 17—perfectly timed to mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22. Nature Center volunteers are currently designing and collecting used materials to repurpose into creative and educational displays that will inspire people of every age to be part of “Green Revolution.” They will host two community days where interested community members can help build components for the exhibition.
“Green Revolution” is based on the exhibition by the same name developed by MSI as part of their Black Creativity program. The exhibition also includes educational resources, videos, and an interactive computer program.
The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago offers thousands of fun and interactive exhibits and one-of-akind, world-class experiences to inspire the inventive genius in everyone. Through its Center for the Advancement of Science Education, MSI also aspires to a larger vision: to inspire and motivate children to achieve their full potential in science, technology, medicine and engineering. For more information, find MSI online at msichicago.org.
SITES has been sharing the wealth of Smithsonian collections and research programs with millions of people outside Washington, D.C., for more than 55 years. SITES connects Americans to their shared cultural heritage through a wide range of exhibitions about art, science and history, which are shown wherever people live, work and play.
