Sports: Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers



Programming Ideas

  • The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History invited Olympic and other well-known athletes to its opening. The keynote address was given by sports commentator, Tony Kornheiser. The museum also set up
    billiard tables, foosball tables, and other games for guests.
    Refreshments were served by waiters wearing referee uniforms.
  • The New York State Museum in Albany, NY, held numerous events in connection with Sports: A family sports weekend, where visitors could meet local sports professionals. A "Design a Putt" activity allowed people to develop their dream golf course. "Vacation Week Sports Day" encouraged visitors to create a new sport or improve an old one. The "Sports Bowl Trivia Contest" was ideal for ages 16+. A sports film festival allowed visitors to relive all of the best sporting moments on the big screen.
