Smithsonian Community Grants

*SITES is deeply grateful to the MetLife Foundation for extending its generosity far beyond the original time period for our Community Grant program. At this time, SITES is not accepting nor awarding grants, but hopes to reinstate this valuable community outreach program in the future with funding support from another source.

Visitors to the "In Search of Giant Squid" exhibition at Yale University's Peabody Museum make their very own giant squid puppets.
The Smithsonian Community Grant program, supported by MetLife Foundation seeks to deepen connections between SITES’ host venues and their communities by encouraging exhibitors to engage their local audiences in new and exciting ways while creating broader access to our exhibitions.

A mariachi band performs at an event for "Our Journeys, Our Stories: Portraits of Latino Achievement" at the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, Chicago.
With this program, eligible SITES exhibitors may apply for up to $5,000 for expenses related to public, educational programming produced in conjunction with a SITES exhibit. Exhibitors may choose to enhance current program offerings or to create a new program especially suited to the topic of the exhibition.

Visitors examine a book about "African Currency" at the International Monetary Fund Center.

Potential programs include, but are not limited to, lecture/film series, family days, student transportation, school tours/workshops, or educational workshops/classes.

Students listen to a lecture at The International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, TN.

The Smithsonian Community Grant program is funded by MetLife Foundation. All grantees will be required to credit SITES and MetLife Foundation on all program related materials.
