The event will include a lecture on the political role of Eleanor Roosevelt by a professor of history at St. Louis University; gallery tours led by museum docents; a dramatic performance featuring a storyteller as Elizabeth Keckley, a woman who purchased herself out of slavery and became Mary Todd Lincoln’s dressmaker; and opportunities to network with colleagues. Teachers will become acquainted with the curriculum materials, including the exhibition’s Teacher’s Guide. The program is designed to encourage educators to draw upon museum resources—both local and national—to enhance and deepen their classroom teaching. The MHS is prepared to fill an identified need for primary source material as it familiarizes educators with the First Ladies exhibition and its supporting curriculum in an effort to encourage teachers to incorporate museum visits into their lesson plans. |
