To develop, present, and publicize a curriculum that addresses not only In Search of Giant Squid but wider concepts in marine biology, including evolution. These interactive science activities will include:a day-long special event for families to mark the opening of the exhibit; a K-12 teacher’s workshop; exhibit tour programs for elementary and secondary school classes; and weekend drop-in activities for visitors.

Becoming American: Teenagers and Immigration, Photographs by Barbara Beirne

To support the creation of public programming to accompany Becoming American: Teenagers and Immigration. The programs will include: an interactive workshop with a Salinas middle school teacher of English as a Second Language and author of La Línea; and the creation and presentation of monologues, accompanied by visual images, educating audiences about the circumstances that compel teenagers to migrate either alone or with their families.

To enhance the Sports: Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers through a schedule of programs that educate and entertain. The programs include: a lecture by exhibit spokesperson and Washington State resident, Bill Russell; a lecture by local writer and historian Jim Price; a family oriented, sports themed MACFest, including local sports figures talking with children and signing autographs, sports equipment that children can try out, and special discounts into the exhibition gallery; and a workshop for regional educators.

Participants will be taken on tours of Covered Bridges: Spanning America’s Landscape, at the Bennington Museum, the Covered Bridge Museum at the Bennington Center for the Arts, and one or more of Bennington’s own covered bridges. Following the tour, participants will be guided in creating a personal response to what they have experienced using a range provided materials.
