Native Words, Native Warriors

To bring speakers, special guests, and develop promotional material related to Native Words, Native Warriors. To bring Keith Little, President of the Navajo Code Talkers Association and former Code Talker, and an undisclosed Code Talker Associate from the Navajo Nation for a presentation; to bring a delegation from the Hopi Nation to the annual Veterans Day Gourd Dance Celebration; and to develop a promotional postcard and poster advertising both presentations.

At the Controls: The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Loots at Cockpits

To support the creation of teacher workshops, grants, and programming to accompany At the Controls: The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Loots at Cockpits.  To offer a free, special preview of the exhibit to central Florida educators and an informational teacher workshop incorporating Florida standards of education and Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) correlations; to provide mini-grants to offset transportation costs for student field trips to view the exhibit; to offer a special day geared toward increasing public awareness in regard to the history and significance of aviation and photography; and to promote a lecture featuring Eric Long, the exhibition photographer.

Jim Henson’s Fantastic World

To produce an interactive family space to accompany Jim Henson’s Fantastic World. This space will be  within the exhibition and will be used for puppet shows. It will provide a place where visitors can look through Jim Henson’s scrapbook and portfolio. It is also where family visitors will select a backpack filled with both art- and science-related activities to augment their visit to the Henson exhibition.

Becoming American: Teenagers & Immigration

To support a photography exhibition project and public panel discussion to accompany Becoming American: Teenagers & Immigration. To support a project in which high school students select teen immigrants (or teens whose parents immigrated), photograph and record their stories. The resulting photographs will be exhibited at the museum and online and will be the subject of a free public panel discussion. Also, artist Barbara Beirne will visit twice to speak to students, as well as at other public venues.

To offer aweekend institute for high school science teachers in Roanoke, Virginia, and its surrounding 40 county service area to accompany Visionary Anatomies. Teachers will receive materials to aid instruction; will learn about the exhibition; and will concentrate on Virginia Standards of Learning related to anatomy and biology.

To develop and publicize a complimentary resource guide for teachers and students, a complimentary handout for visitors, a family guide, and to organize a free workman's day for different industries related to the exhibition. Funds will also be available to offer free admission to elementary and secondary school classes.

Becoming America: Teenagers & Immigration

To develop and present a video featuring the stories and experiences of Asian immigrants of the Puget Sound region to accompany Becoming America: Teenagers & Immigration. The video will be used throughout the run of the exhibition for special presentations, school tours, and cultural outreach.
