The Burgess Shale: Evolution's Big Bang

Marrella

Charles Walcott nicknamed Marella the “lace crab” and it is the most abundant fossil in the Burgess Shale quarry. The strange head shield has two pairs of large spines curving back over the body. Two pairs of antennae project forward and the body consists of numerous segments bearing identically shaped limbs.
