Covered Bridges: Spanning the American Landscape
Barrackville Bridge (built 1853; restored 1999), Barrackville, Marion County, West Virginia
One of the most prolific bridge builders in West Virginia, Lemuel Chenoweth (1811–1884) of Beverly, West Virginia, was a carpenter and cabinetmaker with little formal education. Chenoweth’s Barrackville Bridge, an outstanding example of a Burr arch truss, was restored to its original appearance by Dr. Emory Kemp of West Virginia University in 1999.
