Covered Bridges: Spanning the American Landscape

Whitewater Canal Aqueduct (1848), Metamora, Franklin County, Indiana

Covered bridges were adapted to the needs of nearly every type of transportation. The Whitewater Canal Aqueduct carried canal boats across Duck Creek from 1848 until the Indianapolis and Cincinnati Railroad laid tracks nearby in 1865.
