Elvis performs Hound Dog on The Steve Allen Show. Several weeks earlier, Milton Berle had aired the controversial performance of Elvis's "dance style." Steve wasn't interested in a repeat performance. Instead, he was going to introduce America to the "new" Elvis Presley—the one fit for family audiences. There would be no "disciple of the devil" on his show.
