Jim Henson's Fantastic World
The complicated technology of the Drill Team Mechanical Puppets allowed two puppeteers (here, Jim Henson and Jeffy Juhl, in 1961) to manipulate the whole battalion of soldiers at once. This experimentation laid the groundwork for the internal mechanisms that control the Muppets' facial expressions. Eventually, Henson and his colleagues developed an award-winning computer control system that set the industry standard for animatronic techniques.
