A Magic Web: The Tropical Forest of Barro Colorado Island

Toucan with Cicada

Keel-billed toucans (Ramphastos sulfuratus brevicarinatus) are perhaps the most spectacular of Barro Colorado Island's birds. Adults eat mainly fruit but feed insects to their young, thereby helping regulate insect populations. This adult is returning to its nest with a large cicada.
