Soon after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., in April 1968, Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti wrote this heartfelt note about America’s struggles to architectural historian, Esther McCoy. He explained, “I am thinking always about America, your America that I love so much . . .” Ponti decorated the letter with an arabesque of finger prints.
