More Than Words: Illustrated Letters from the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art
Eero Saarinen (1910–1961) to Alice Bernstein
[1953]
Finnish–born architect Eero Saarinen often illustrated letters to his fiancée, an art editor and later critic at The New York Times. This note documents Saarinen’s intense productivity—at work on five different projects. The following year, he completed his master plan for the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. The Michigan Music School, sketched here in plan and elevation, was finished in 1964.
