Green Revolution—A new kind of exhibition

Go GREEN!Are you ready for the Green Revolution? SITES is partnering with Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry to present Green Revolution, an innovative “traveling” exhibition about various aspects of environmentalism. We provide you with the plans, design, and “how to” for your team to fabricate and install your very own green exhibit using materials from your own backyard. Plus, no crates and no trucks minimizes our carbon footprint.

With a website and video to guide you, you’ll have solutions to all your green problems at your fingertips. Using your recycled materials, your local resources, and your muscle, you’ll be able to build your own eco-zibit!

But before we start planning, we’d like to hear from you about what we should offer in our Green Revolution exhibition. Your feedback will help us provide the kind of exhibition that works for you! Please click here to take quick survey about the exhibition.

Interested in presidential history?

The Working White House: 200 Years of Tradition and Memories

On January 20th, an estimated two million Americans gathered upon the National Mall to witness presidential history in the making. And many more are curious about life in the White House these days. Check out two exhibitions that shed some light on what it’s really like to call the White House “home.”

The Working White House: Two Hundred Years of Tradition and Memories explores a day-in-the-life of 19th-21st century White House workers. Historic objects like housekeeping implements provide context for their stories, while text and images explore themes ranging from skills and responsibilities, to slavery and racial segregation, to relations with the first family. Compelling oral histories of men and women who have served presidents from William Taft through George W. Bush are supplemented by an audio tour and video.

The White House Garden, produced with the White House Historical Association, launched a national tour last year to the delight of many gardeners and curious Americans. Drawing on recent scholarship, and reproduction archival and contemporary photographs, drawings, maps, and correspondence, the exhibition traces the development of America’s oldest continuously maintained garden.

How has the Garden changed from the original designs and throughout the different administrations? What kinds of flowers and plants grow there? What special events have taken place in this unique mix of public and private outdoor space?

The White House Garden explores the answers to these questions (and more) in vivid detail.

At a glance:
