Hosting Requirements
The exhibition has been designated "high security" by SITES. Institutions hosting DIG IT! must provide the following security and environmental controls:
- Professional guards must monitor the exhibition throughout the time that it is open to the public and during unpacking, installation, de-installation, and re-packing.
- Exhibition area must be locked and secure during closing hours. Alarm and/or guard surveillance during closing hours is required.
- Objects may be handled only by personnel trained in handling museum objects.
- Temperature must be a constant 20- 22° C (68-72° F), relative humidity must be between 35 and 60%. Light levels must not exceed 20 foot-candles. No direct sunlight may reach any portion of the exhibition.
- Adequate fire protection must be provided.
- Smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited in the staging, storage and exhibition areas.
DIG IT! contains large, complex structures (up to 10 feet in height) incorporating audio visual components, computer interactives, an internet hook up, and electro-mechanical components. Museums must be able to support the interactive components during display. Venues must also provide an enclosed space with seating for the "Life & Death Theater" presentation.
Venues will be expected to provide SITES with a proposed floor plan 10 weeks prior to the arrival of the exhibition. Venues should also expect to provide the staff and equipment necessary to receive and ship out the exhibition and work with SITES and its technicians during installation and de-installation of the exhibition.
